In this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, we look back at Saturday's Spring...um...Game? Scrimmage? Practice? WTF did we watch? We'll figure out the answer while trying not to yawn.

We'll also look at the stat lines for the guys we singled out as Players to Watch and Players to Excel in our last episode.

Finally, we will review the results of the plus/minus game, and preview our next livestream with the Husker Cuz Cast on May 15th.

“Spring-Bored”

INTRO

OVERVIEW

ICE BREAKERS
Hope no one who hears this podcast or watches the video of this stream later had any issues with the high winds last week. It was difficult to be a truck driver for sure.

I will be going in for a consultation on Weds for cataract surgery. As much as I am looking forward to good eyesight, I am looking even more forward to wearing actual sunglasses again for the first time since 1988, AND not dealing with the screen glare on my glasses from doing this livestream.

Hung out with Honke and Redcast Rob at a the Go Big Redcast tailgate before the game
Also met a bunch of other cool fans like Jim and Gary, and if I remember right Gary is going to Dublin, along with Redcast Rob and Honke. Also met Meg from the Poppin’ Kernels Podcast, and we hope to have her and her co-host Abbie on the pod.

SPRING GAME REVIEW
Overall Thoughts on the Game as a Whole
Advantage defense in 1st half with no tackling
Standout player on O: Grant
Advantage offense in 2nd half with tackling, and QBs in red jerseys
White was held scoreless for most of the 2nd half, but for two turnovers and a couple 3 and outs for 14 points.
Smothers still needs a lot of work on his passing.
I was impressed with both Thompson and Purdy. If Chubba comes into Fall camp 100%, I think we will have a great QB competition.
Standout player on D: Jimari Butler. 6 tackles, 3 solo, 1 sack, 1 TFL, and 1 QBH
Haarberg’s TD throw to Kamonte Grimes in the 3rd was very nice, but the INT he tossed toward the end of the 4th was a bad decision.
Leading rusher was Trevin Lubin, with 91 yards on 8 carries. 11 yards per carry, with a long of 32.
Leading receiver was AJ Rollins, with 4 rec for 39 yards, with a long of 27 on a nice toss from Purdy
Leading passer was Chubba Purdy, who was 5 for 10 for 63 yards, with a long of 27 to Rollins
Leading tackler was Grant Tagge, with 8. 4 of them solo tackles.
